Lake Chala Lake Chala is a crater lake in a caldera on the borders of Tanzania and Kenya on the eastern edge of Mount Kilimanjaro, not far from the town of Moshi and 27 km south of Moshi. Depending on the time of year, it ranges in colour from deep blue to turquoise and green, it is surrounded by a 100 metres high crater rim. The lake is fed by groundwater flows, which come from Mount Kilimanjaro, fed and drained under ground with a rate of about 10 million years. Even the Chala loses volume. It´s level had dropped in the last 6 years, by 2.4 metres, at the start of 2011 the water level has risen again by over 1 metre. With an immensely diverse ecosystem, Lake Chala is a top attraction from Moshi. An adventure, or a just place to relax, the choice is yours. Lake Jipe Lake Jipe is an inter-territorial lake straddling the borders of Tanzania and Kenya. On the Tanzanian side, it is situated within Mwanga District, in Kilimanjaro Region while on the Kenyan side, it is located south of the village of Kachero. The lake is fed mainly by the Lumi River, which descends from Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as streams from the North Pare Mountains, being on the leeward side. The lake's outlet forms the Ruvu River. Kenya's unfenced Tsavo West National Park protects part of the lake's northern shore, while on the Tanzania side Mkomazi Game Reserve is nearby. The lake is known for its endemic fish, as well as water birds, mammals, wetland plants and lake-edge swamps, which can extend 2 kilometers (3 mi) from Jipe's shore. At the Kenyan side Kachero and Mkwajuni villages are the best places to visit on dry season from July-Feb, here You stand a good chance of spotting a herd of elephants bathing and drinking very close on foot in this unusual and very off the beaten path destination. Arusha National Park Is a smaller park located near Arusha town between the peaks of Mountains Kilimanjaro and Meru. The park and the town derive their name from Wa-Arusha people who traditionally live in this area. The Ngurdoto Crater, Momela Lakes, the highland montane forest, and the rugged Mount Meru (4575m) are the four distinctive features of the park. Although small, the park has a wealth of wildlife including colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, bushbucks, buffaloes, red forest duikers, hippos, elephants, and giraffes. Bird life, especially waterfowl, is abundant and interesting. You can do some hiking with an armed ranger at the Ngurudoto Crater and to the Mt. Meru Crater.
